Preparing for your appointment
We want your visit with us to be as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Here’s what you need to know before you arrive:
How long to allow
Please allow around 2 hours for your first appointment. This gives us time for a thorough examination, any necessary tests, and to answer your questions.
Getting here
- There is ample, free on-site parking available at RiverCity Private Hospital.
- Please enter via Wienholt Street, off Milton Road.
- Our rooms are located on Level 3, 401 Milton Road, Auchenflower QLD 4066.
- Auchenflower Train Station is only a short walk away if you prefer to use public transport.
What to bring
- Your current glasses (if you wear them)
- A list of your current medications and allergies
- Your referral letter (if it hasn’t already been sent to us)
- Your Medicare, DVA, Health Fund or Pension cards
- Any previous eye test results or scans, if you have them
Important things to know
- Your pupils may need to be dilated. If so, your vision may be blurry for a few hours afterwards, and it’s safest not to drive yourself home.
- Dilation can also make your eyes more sensitive to light, so bringing sunglasses or a hat can be helpful.
- If you are attending for a cataract assessment, please do not wear contact lenses for one week before your appointment (3 weeks if you wear hard contact lenses). This allows us to take accurate measurements for surgery.
Tips to make the most of your visit
- Write down any questions or concerns you’d like to discuss.
- Make a note of any changes in your vision (for example, blurriness, glare, double vision, flashes or floaters).
- Feel free to bring a support person if that helps you feel more comfortable.
