Dr Andrew Hewson is an Ophthalmologist specialising in Vitreoretinal Surgery. He has spent the past decade helping to preserve and restore vision, with a focus on acute situations such as retinal detachments and infections.
After graduating with a Medical Degree from the University of Notre Dame, Dr Hewson undertook specialist training in Ophthalmology, working in tertiary and rural hospitals across Queensland. Dr Hewson completed subspecialty training with a Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, followed by a Vitreoretinal Fellowship at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in the UK. From this, he gained extensive experience in complex and emergency retinal surgery.
Dr Hewson is very experienced in general ophthalmology, ophthalmic emergencies, cataract surgery and medical retina including diabetic eye disease.
Dr Hewson is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) and has published research in peer-review journals and presented at international conferences.
